This morning I began the trip to Bali with a drum on a mountain top followed by a bath in the sulpher waters of Tassajara Hot Springs. Before bathing I create several rock stacks in return for the kindness of the waters. As dawn approaches I leave the baths and return to the mountain where I watch the sun rise above a thick carpet of fog which totally covers the Salinas and Carmel Valleys. This is the place I always go before starting new work. The beauty of the night sky and the morning’s dawn prepare me for the stone and humble me before nature. I am thankful for the gift of life and it is good to remember this.
